THE DOWNS SPOTLIGHT | People That Make Our Club

Some people grow up playing netball. Others grow up to inspire the next generation. At The Downs, Lucie McKenna has managed to do both.
Lucie joined The Downs at just nine years old and has been part of the club for over a decade. From progressing through every junior age group to becoming a Regional League player, netball has been a constant part of her life.
Growing up at The Downs, Lucie has dedicated countless hours to the club and her netball, showing tremendous commitment to weekly training sessions, competitive matches and the demands of progressing through the junior age groups. Through her dedication, enthusiasm and love of the game, Lucie has developed from a young player into an accomplished Regional League player and respected coach.
Six years ago ….

Lucie took her first steps into coaching, leading our Under 10s. Today, we’re delighted to congratulate her on her appointment as Head Coach of our U16s, marking another exciting milestone in her coaching journey.
As her playing career progressed, Lucie began giving back to the club through coaching, sharing her knowledge and experience with younger players. Having experienced the journey herself, she understands the importance of encouraging young players, building their confidence and helping them develop a lifelong love of netball.
Outside of netball, Lucie has also been busy building her professional career. Having recently qualified as a teacher, she has now started an exciting new chapter at Jubilee High School. We wish her every success as she embarks on her teaching career.
Organised, committed and passionate about coaching, Lucie understands that developing young players is about more than improving their skills on court. By creating a positive, supportive environment where girls feel confident, valued and part of a team, she plays an important role in encouraging them to stay involved in the sport. It’s this dedication that makes Lucie such a valuable part of The Downs and helps us achieve our ambition of Keeping Our Sisters in the Game.
Congratulations, Lucie, on both your new teaching career and your appointment as U16s Head Coach. We’re incredibly proud of you!
